Joe Kidd dives into his first short film, tackling the realm of relationships and zombies with "Undying Love." Here at AAG, we were lucky enough to grab a few moments of his time to get the scoop about this wonderful film.
AAG: What was the inspiration for this film?
Joe: Secretly (not so secret anymore), I am a romantic at heart and feel that every great story, at some point, is about love. Even stories about killers have an element of love. It might be their love for murder, the love they had for their mother, or maybe the girl that jilted them so many years ago. But the actual inspiration for this film is my life. I thought I was living a pretty full life but then my girlfriend, Iabou, she made me realize that I wasn't living. I was walking doing my normal daily routine like I was a zombie. I was alive and moving around but I wasn't truly living. So I thought, what would happen in a world where zombies could feel? Then it developed from there into my first short film.
AAG: What was it like sitting through the creation of your character in the make-up chair?
Joe: It was amazing! But being a guy, applying make-up isn't a normal thing for me. I had two make-up artists, one on each side, rubbing green make-up on my face. I didn't really look in the mirror until they were done and I was surprised at how much it changed the way I looked but at the same time you could still tell it was me.
AAG: What do you hope people will take away from Undying Love?
Joe: First and foremost, I want people to be entertained. But the message that I want people to get is to start living and that love is stronger than anything else in world. I used zombies as kind of a metaphor for the way people are living theses days. They believe everything the so called "news" tells them and are happy to connect with people only through their phones or on the computer. I hope it makes people realize that there is something more out there for everyone.
AAG: What's next with this film?
Joe: After editing, color correcting and finding the perfect music, I want to get together with a few local filmmakers and have a showing of our short films in a theater. Then I will research and find the film festivals that in which I think this film may do well.
AAG: What's next for Joe Kidd?
Joe: Now that I have an agent that I can trust, I plan on auditioning for every project that is sent my way. As far as my own projects, I will be starting preproduction for a feature length romantic comedy written by Iabou WIndimere to start filming next summer. I have also been approached to work on several other projects that are yet to be named but hopefully I can soon start to make announcements about these projects that are going to be awesome.
